CERTIFIED B CORP SAXBYS ONCE AGAIN RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE 50 MOST COMMUNITY-MINDED EMPLOYERS IN THE GREATER PHILADELPHIA REGION

[PHILADELPHIA, PA] — On Thursday, June 27, Philadelphia-based Saxbys was named a 2024 honoree of the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia by the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia (the Chamber), in partnership with globally recognized nonprofit Points of Light, lead partner the Philadelphia Foundation, and other local partners. Modeled after Points of Light’s national program, the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia measures and recognizes civic-minded companies using their time, talent, and resources to drive social impact within their organizations and communities – setting the standard for civic engagement in the region

The 2024 Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia honorees represent private and public companies, as well as

nonprofits, agencies, and institutions (e.g., hospitals and universities) of more than 10 employees operating in the 11-county Greater Philadelphia region. They have been selected based on four dimensions of their community engagement program:

  • Investment of resources;

  • Integration across business functions;

  • Institutionalization through policies and systems; and

  • Impact measurement.

2024 marks the second year in a row that Saxbys has been named a Civic 50 honoree. Among the Greater Philadelphia companies who completed the Civic 50 application, Saxbys earned the region’s top score for Integration. The Integration dimension measures how a company “does well by doing good” through engagement programs that support both the profitability of the business and the wellbeing of the communities it serves.

“Saxbys is an education company – disguised as a coffee company – on a mission to Make Life Better by supporting and empowering the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs. That commitment is central to everything we do not just here in Philadelphia but in our Experiential Learning cafes across the country as well,,” said Nick Bayer, Founder & CEO of Saxbys. “We’re deeply proud of this recognition from the Chamber of Commerce, particularly with the recognition of how purposefully and impactfully our social impact is woven into all aspects of our business.”

For nearly a decade, Saxbys has partnered with universities and colleges across the United States to open and operate exclusively student-run cafes through the company’s Experiential Learning Platform (ELP). Helmed by Student CEOs and Student Leadership Teams, Saxbys ELP cafes are exclusively designed for and run by students who earn credit and wages, and have full responsibility for the operation’s profit and loss statement. Since opening its first experiential learning cafe in partnership with Drexel University in 2015, Saxbys has trained and supported nearly 500 student leaders.

“The Saxbys ELP empowers students to develop transferable, industry-agnostic power skills and real, tangible stories of leadership, supercharging their entry into the workforce after graduation and paving the path to leadership positions with their future employers,” Bayer said.

“The Chamber is proud to recognize Saxbys as a 2024 honoree of the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia,” said Chellie Cameron, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber. “Each of this year’s honorees are valued members of Greater Philadelphia’s business community, exemplifying what it means to be a positive corporate citizen and demonstrating the power of service. We thank Saxbys for their efforts to drive impact and congratulate them on this tremendous achievement.”

Saxbys is also proud to congratulate fellow civic-minded partners and Civic 50 honorees – Drexel University, West Chester University, University of Pennsylvania, Aramark, BLBB Advisors, and EY.

In keeping with the Chamber’s efforts to drive regional impact and achieve its vision, it also serves as home to the Greater Philadelphia Corporate Volunteer Network (GPCVN), a community of diverse businesses committed to giving back to their communities.

The Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia honorees were officially recognized on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at an Honoree Reveal Celebration hosted at the Cira Centre. The Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia Self-Assessment is administered by True Impact, a company specializing in helping organizations maximize and measure their social and business value, and consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform the scoring process.
